Angels rejoice

At about noon on August 2, 2015 angels were partying in heaven when Mary* turned from following Satan to following Jesus.

Years before, her husband (let’s call him John) had watched fearfully and helplessly as his wife got involved in a pagan witchcraft religion named Wicca.  Mary had been thirsty, spiritually searching, but no believer had ever stepped up to the plate to share the Gospel with her.  So instead, much to John’s horror, she got sucked into Wicca.

Then one day John lost his job, and suddenly their world began to close in on them. He began cutting timber and selling firewood to provide for his family but it wasn’t enough.  He decided to use the wood to build custom Alaskan furniture, but in order to get the business going, he needed a $500 chain saw that he couldn’t afford.

Roots Family Church, a DCPI church plant in that neighbourhood, heard about this through John’s son and daughter-in-law who attended that church.  The congregation decided to buy him the chainsaw. What happened next can only be the work of the Holy Spirit. That very Sunday, John and Mary visited Roots Family Church. And they haven’t missed a Sunday since.

Mary began to share her spiritual journey openly with her new friends. She read the Bible, meditated on the Sunday sermons, and thoughtfully considered the Gospel.

On August 2, after months of investigation, Mary prayed aloud during the morning worship service to accept Christ.  One week later they were both baptized – a public confession of their faith.  As Mary stood in the waters of baptism, just before being immersed, she asked if she could pray aloud and said, “On this day, Jesus, I give my life to You.”

Side: In answer to God’s call, Pastor Jim Boyd is the DCPI Master Trainer who moved his family from California to the town of Soldotna on the Alaskan Kenai Peninsula where less than 2% of the population believe in Jesus.  We thank God for Jim and his wife, Steph.  God is using them to set the captives, just like John and Mary, free from bondage and introduce them to wholeness in Christ.
